Khao Yai National Park

Posted on March 7, 2020October 21, 2025 by ivo moeys

Khao Yai is known for its wildlife, waterfalls, hikes and much more.

RAIN SEASON

If you visit Khao Yai National Park during the rainy season (June to October) you should wear special socks to protect you from unwanted animals : Leeches

Small, worm like creatures that cling to passers-by. Make sure you don’t have uncovered legs and wear good socks. Keep a close eye on each other because they like to crawl up.

But don’t worry; the guide can tell you all about them and also knows how to defuse them. Mosquito repellent does wonders!

ANIMALS

There are many animals living in the national park. There are about 200 elephants and several tigers, monkeys, bears and leopards that have Khao Yai park as their home. Yet, the chance that you see one of these animals is small. However, you can easily see beautiful birds, and you regularly encounter scorpions, snakes, special insects, monkeys, crocodiles, and iguanas. Many of the animals can be spotted on a safari. If you choose for a tour of several days, the chance of spotting wildlife will also increase. Furthermore, special kind of mushrooms you can spot there.

TREKKING

There are numerous beautiful treks you can make in the park. You can arrange these yourself by going to the visitor centre, at the entrance of the park. You can take a few routes without a guide, but this is strongly discouraged. In the past, some tourists got lost and had to spend the night in the park, without any preparation.

When a guide accompanies you, you learn more about the park and the animals than when you go on your own. Moreover, a guide will spot wildlife faster. There are many organized tours to the park to book. You can go out for a day with a guide, but you can also book a multi-day safari. We stay two   nights in the park in Khao Yai Garden Lodge a very basic hotel with swimming pool and in the evening there were some dances, You can book some tours in the hotel, also the food was fine.

Two video’s that i made in the evening in the hotel :

Thai showfight
