Formally inaugurated in 1909, it stands as one of the largest Catholic churches in Thailand1. The cathedral’s construction began during the French occupation of Chanthaburi in the early 20th century and was completed in 1903.Key features of the cathedral include:

  1. Gothic Architecture: The church showcases classic Gothic elements such as ogive arches, pointed apexes, and twin spires that reach 210 feet tall
  2. Size and Structure: Measuring 60 meters in length and 20 meters in width, the cathedral dominates the Chanthaburi skyline.
  3. Interior Design: The cathedral boasts beautiful stained glass windows depicting saints, ancient artistic patterns, an old pulpit, and century-old floor tiles.
  4. Marian Devotion: As a shrine dedicated to the Immaculate Conception, it features a statue of the Virgin Mary adorned with 200,000 to 500,000 precious gems, reflecting Chanthaburi’s reputation as a gem trading center.
